Things to Do in San Martín del Castañar

One of the most beautiful villages in Spain, frozen in time at the heart of the Sierra de Francia (Salamanca). Here is what you cannot miss.

🏰 The Castle and its views

At the highest point of the village stands the 15th-century castle, with its restored keep tower. Today it houses the village's unusual cemetery and offers privileged views over the rooftops and the mountains. A place with a unique atmosphere.

⛪ Church of San Martín de Tours

Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, this church holds surprising Moorish-style arches inside. A gem of mountain heritage right in the historic centre.

🏘️ The medieval old town

Wander through its cobbled, narrow streets, among half-timbered houses and small squares. The whole village is a Historic-Artistic Site and feels frozen in another era.

💧 The Canderuelo natural pool

In the municipal park, the Canderuelo stream forms a natural pool with a grassy area, changing rooms and a snack bar set up in the old communal washhouses. The perfect plan to cool off in summer.

🌳 The Legoriza Oak Grove

A couple of kilometres from the village, an oak grove with huge granite boulder fields hides a 7th-century Visigothic archaeological site. A mushroom-foraging area with a picnic spot: nature, history and mushrooms in season.
